What Makes a Mighty Man/Woman of God

What Makes a Mighty Man/Woman of God

What makes a mighty man/woman of God? Servanthood, having a servant’s heart, devotion to God, genuine love and compassion for others with humbleness.

When we think of a mighty man or woman of God, what type of person would you normally picture in your mind? Someone who lays hands on the sick, prophesying, giving a word of knowledge or a word of wisdom, healing the sick? Those who have these giftings we view them as a mighty man or woman of God. I believe most everyone of us have thought this way.

Characters In the Bible

Let’s look at some characters in the bible who have never performed miracles and healings…

Abraham is known for his faithfulness to God. He wasn’t perfect but HIS HEART FOR THE LORD WAS! Abraham was even called “A Friend of God”. He was also called “The Father of many Nations.” What a recognition he received from God! I don’t know about you, but I would love to be looked at as a friend of God. A friend who speaks up and will lay down his life for God his Father! He loved God with all of his heart and had a pure heart for God.

Joseph (one of my favorites), Joseph could interpret dreams. God gave him a dream when he was a teenager about his future. God knew Joseph would tell his brothers and where Joseph would end up at in order for the prophetic word to come to pass. Joseph was set on high in charge of all the food distribution. His family would not have survived without Joseph being placed in a position by God, but who also ended up wealthy because of where God had set Joseph.

Notice God used Joseph to rescue his family from poverty. How many families today rescue their own from poverty? Not many. Joseph was a mighty man of God because of his faithfulness to God! He was faithful to the Lord through his toughest times being falsely accused and while in imprison.

Moses was not great speaker; he was faithful to God. He had no power, but God used his power through a staff. Moses didn’t fear Pharoah, he feared God and trusted God with his whole heart. He was faithful during the waiting (being in the wilderness for forty years) and through the hardships.

How about Esther? He had the plan set for her to be queen and knew she would not be led from gaining a big head or pride but through humbleness, her loving, kind heart and love she had for the Lord. She loved her family and was devoted to doing good, she was devoted to God. Again, here she rescued her family the Jewish people, with a true loving heart and boldness that can only come from the Holy Spirit.

Deborah, the only female judge in the Bible, excelled in multiple areas. Clearly one of the Bible’s most outstanding figures, she served ancient Israel as a prophet, judge, military leader, songwriter, and minstrel (Judges 4–5). She fused in herself the roles of prophet, national leader, and military commander. The Israelites prospered under her tenure. She was bold, faithful and very well trusted not only by God but those she led.

Ruth forsook her homeland, her people and the gods of Moab. She left it all to lead a new life in a land where she would be a stranger. She loved Naomi and pledged to not forsake her, but to share Naomi’s destiny in Israel. Ruth chose the God of Israel as her God. Ruth exhibited faithfulness, respect, devotion, love, friendship and humility. Ruth was a virtuous woman and showed herself as such. A royal lineage came from Boaz and Ruth, as Obed was the grandfather of King David, and from King David’s royal line came our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

There are many more that can be added to the list, lets end it with Jesus.

All of these characters led a life pleasing God.

Proof It Isn’t the Power

Jesus is the man of God, with a heart full of pure unfailing love for ALL MEN! Jesus was powerless without the Holy Spirit. It wasn’t the laying on of hands, healing and deliverance that made Him a mighty man of God. HIS LOVE AND COMPASSION FOR ALL MANKIND BEDSIDES HIS BEING THE SON OF GOD HAVING GENUINE LOVE AND FAITHFULNESS TO HIS FATHER, MADE HIM A MIGHTY MAN OF GOD. He GAVE HIMSELF TO GOD TO BE HIS SERVANT… IT WASN’T THE POWER!

The power only comes from the Holy Spirit, Jesus as a man without the Holy Spirit, could not perform miracles, and healings etc. Jesus was powerless without the Holy Spirit.

Samson in the Old Testament was powerless without his long hair…. did his power make him a mighty man of God? No!

To close, it isn’t power that makes a mighty man or woman of God, it is unconditional love, loyalty and faithfulness to God having the True Heart of God. The mighty men and women of God I have listed walked in all of these things having great character. Character means everything! They never made it about themselves but walked in humility with compassion toward others. When we have that kind of heart for God, it gives us the capabilities to love others the way that Christ does.

THEY WERE A YEILDING VESSEL TO THE LORD…A SERVANT OF THE LORD.

Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? Matthew 7:22

We are to imitate Jesus’ heart. By walking in love towards others as He did. He loved and had compassion for the sinners…HE NEVER JUDGED THEM!

Example: A Married Couple Who Work at Hardees (True Heart True Servanthood)

There is an older black American married couple who work at a Hardees in Ooltewah, TN. I love going in there for breakfast whenever I’m in that area because of the welcoming, loving, atmosphere this couple bring. They have a loving heart for people. I love being touched with their love.

I’m always greeted in the parking lot by this man who sweeps and picks up the trash around the restaurant and changes the trash and does more. And always asked if everything is fine and how am I doing from the woman who cleans the tables and the chairs and sweeps the floors.

My latest conversation with her was the other day, I found out she is married to the man who was cleaning the parking lot. I told her how I love coming in there because of her and her husband. How the atmosphere is so welcoming and a blessing to me. She was touched by my words and her reply was, “We are to do the things and be the things that the Bible tells us to be towards others, and my husband and I do this. We want to be and show the love of Jesus to people.”

That blessed me so much! They are truly a loving couple with the right heart. They walk in TRUE SERVANTHOOD and THEY WALK IN ONENESS!

THIS COUPLE WHO WORK AT HARDEES ARE THE EXAMPLE OF WHAT A TRUE WOMAN AND MAN OF GOD REALLY ARE!

True Love and Compassion

Glamor and selfishness will only get you so far…but a heart full of love and faithfulness to God will get us further and will get more accomplished than self ever will!

THERE IS POWER IN THE BLOOD GIVEN FOR ALL TO RECEIVE, BUT IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH BEING A MIGHTY MAN OR WOMAN OF GOD.

IT IS THE TRUE HEART FOR GOD WITH TRUE LOVE AND TRUE COMPASSION THAT MAKES A MIGHTY MAN/WOMAN OF GOD! IT IS SERVANTHOOD! IT WILL NEVER BE ABOUT THE POWER BUT ALWAYS ABOUT THE POWER OF TRUE LOVE THAT IS GIVEN TO OTHERS!
